Theresa C.

Stephen has experienced two attempts on his life. The second has left him in a small stream where Hayley and her unusal servants find him.

Stephen tells the occupants of Albright Cottage he is a tutor but neglects telling them he needs a place to recover and figure out who is trying to kill him. A spinster on the shelf, Hayley, is almost instantly in love with the tutor. Stephen is appalled with what he sees as a disorderly household, until Hayley and the "motley crew" at Albright Cottage show him what a real family is.

Stephen contacts his brother-in-law for help with the killer, swearing him to secrecy. Hayley has a secret of her own and must guard it or lose the family's only income.

The killer closes in on Stephen in a stunning conclusion. I enjoyed this first book and look forward to more from this author.
